Get signed up early and ensure your child a spot on a youth flag football team in the fall. The 2012 season will begin Sept. 15, and it is open to boys and girls in 1st through 6th grade. The divisions are 1st grade, 2nd-3rd grade, and 4th-6th grade. This will be the first season of our 1st grade league. Players will be contacted by coaches once all of the coaching spots and rosters are filled. Practices will be held once or twice a week, and games are held Saturday mornings for six consecutive weeks. This year’s youth flag football will be sponsored by Fore Season’s Golf and Hy-Vee .

This program will give preschoolers new opportunities to explore T-Ball. The focus will be teaching basic skills, developing motor skills, making friends and having fun, while learning about T-Ball.

The Newton YMCA and Skiff Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation bring you our annual summer sports camps. Participants have five camps to choose from, each camp will offer quality instruction from coaches, with emphasis on fundamentals, skill development, team work and most important FUN! The summer months are the best time to improve your sport skills so don’t miss out on this great opportunity.

:: Newton YMCA Sports Academy ::
The Newton Y Sports Academy will focus on providing young athletes with specialized clinics and camps to take their play to
the next level. Organizers are working with coaches and athletes in Central Iowa to provide professional and educational opportunities
for the competitive youth athlete. The Academy will have different camps and clinics throughout the year in many sports.
• John Shawver Junior Golf Instruction
Come join us this summer at Fore Season’s practice center for a summer of golf. The program will be led by Newton-native John
Shawver. Shawver has been a Class A PGA Professional since 1996, and has been teaching golf for more than 20 years. His
experience as an instructor includes 7 years as an assistant professional at Westwood Golf Course, 11 years at Newton Country
Club, and two years as an instructor at John Jacobs Golf School in Naples, Fla. Shawver’s program has three goals: 1) Teach the
values of this great game: honesty, integrity, character and hard work; 2) Teach the basic fundamentals of the game, the building
blocks for a lifetime of golf.; 3) Have fun! The program is designed to introduce kids to this great game,
and keep them engaged all summer.

• Football Skill Position Clinic
The Football Skill Position Clinic is a non-contact camp focusing on footwork, ball handling, passing mechanics and route running.
Led by longtime Newton High School football coach Ed Ergenbright, the camp will provide specific skill and technique instruction for running backs, receivers and quarterbacks.
Who: Boys entering 5th through 8th grades
When: 9 a.m.-Noon Wednesday, June 27
Where: HA Lynn Stadium
Fees: $20 per person
• Endurance Running Camp
The Endurance Running Camp is coached by Robyn Friedman, and is designed to help take runners to the next level with two weeks of camp followed by a 5K. Friedman is a nine-time All-American at Wartburg College in cross country and track and field, never beaten in 14 Iowa Conference Championship races, competed in three successive Olympic Trials marathons with a best place finish of ninth place in 2008, decorated road race runner, winning Dam to Dam two times and Des Moines marathon two times, has been a volunteer with the Newton girls cross country program in the past and continues to run competitively and for fitness. She is the mother of three children and a physical therapist at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

• Shoot-It Basketball Clinic
Shoot-It Basketball Clinic has been developed into one of the premier shooting/skill camps in Iowa. The clinic offers detailed shooting instruction, video taped evaluations, games of 2 on 2, and a Shoot-It T-shirt.

When: July 9, 16, 23, 30 and Aug. 6
Grades: 6th-9th: 1-2:30 p.m.
