Pizza Hut Youth Basketball League
Come join the best winter sport in town, the Pizza Hut Youth Basketball League. The program focuses on skill development, sportsmanship, and having fun. Please consider being a volunteer coach for our youth basketball league.
Who: Boys and girls in second-sixth grades
Where: YMCA gyms
When: Games are played six consecutive Saturday mornings beginning Jan. 14, 2012
Coaches’ Meeting: A coaches’ meeting will take place once roster spots and coaching positions are filled. Teams typically practice one or two days a week at the YMCA.

 

Fore Seasons Spring Youth Soccer League
Come join in the fun and exciting world of Soccer, brought to you by the Fore Seasons Golf Practice Center. Our program focuses on skill development, sportsmanship, and having fun. Please consider being a volunteer coach for our youth soccer league.
Who: Pre-K (4 and 5 year olds) to sixth-grade students
Where: YMCA game fields
When: Games are played six consecutive Saturday mornings beginning April 7
Early Registration Fees (Before March 1): $20 Y members; $42 Non-members
Registration Fees (March 2-14): $25 Y members; $47 Non-members

No registrations will be accepted after March 14 unless roster spots are open.

Coaches’ Meeting: A coaches’ meeting will take place March 19 at 6 p.m. Following the meeting coaches will contact the players to schedule practices. Teams typically practice one day a week at local schools and parks.

 

REG Lil’ Pro Sports
This program will give preschoolers new opportunities to explore a variety of sport activities. The focus will be teaching basic skills, developing motor skills, and having fun!
Basketball
Who: Boys and girls ages 4 and 5
Where: YMCA gym

When: 5-5:45 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, 19, 26 and Feb. 2
Fees: $16 Y member; $30 Non-member

 

Mighty Mights Sports
The Mighty Mights Sports series focuses on the development of basic fundamentals of each sport, improving motor skills, and helping kids transition into our youth sports leagues. Kids will receive instruction through drills and practice for the first few weeks, and then will have the opportunity to be split into teams and play games for the last couple weeks.

Who: Boys and girls in Kindergarten and first grades
Where: YMCA gym
When: 5-5:45 p.m. Kindergarten; 6-6:45 p.m. First Grade
Monday, Jan. 9, 16, 23, 30 and Feb. 6
Fees: $20 Y member; $35 Non-member

 

Newton Y Sports Academy
The Newton Y Sports Academy will focus on providing young athletes with specialized clinics and camps to take their play to the next level. Organizers are working with coaches and athletes in Central Iowa to provide professional and educational opportunities for the competitive youth athlete. The Academy will have different camps and clinics throughout the year in many sports.
Acceleration and Agility Training
Instructors: Tom Godferdsen, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist for 13 years and USA Olympic Weightlifting Club Coach
Where: YMCA gymnasium
When: 4-5 p.m. Monday/Thursday or 4-5 p.m. Tuesday/Friday from Feb. 13-March 16
Who: Fifth- through eighth-grade boys and girls (12 spots available)
Fees: $50 Y member; $60 Non-member
