YMCA closed Sunday, Monday for Memorial Day
The YMCA will be closed on Sunday and Monday in honor of Memorial Day.
We will open for business on Tuesday, May 28, at 5 a.m. with our new summer hours.
Summer hours will be 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday-Friday, 6 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday.

Summer Daze Triathlon results announced
Seventy athletes competed during the Newton YMCA/Edward Jones/HyVee Summer Daze Triathlon on Saturday, May 12.
Athletes from Central Iowa and around the country competed in a 300-meter swim, 18 mile bike ride and a 5K run starting at the Newton Y.

YMCA adds new classes to schedule
The Newton YMCA fitness staff are excited to announce the addition of new classes to the Y's schedule.
Beginning May 22, an additional AquaZumba class on Tuesday nights at 5:30 p.m. This class is instructed by certified Zumba instructor Natalie Wells.
For Zumba lovers the YMCA is adding an additional land class on Wednesdays at noon at the YMCA. Instructed by Lariza Rethmeier, this class is a great day-time addition to the YMCA schedule beginning June 6.

Olympian John Peterson to visit Newton YMCA May 5
Olympic Champion John Peterson will be visiting the Newton YMCA on May 5 to help kick off the annual Partner With Youth Campaign. Peterson won a silver medal in 1972 and a gold medal in 1976 for freestyle wrestling.
Today, Peterson travels the country sharing the importance of positive Christian values and the story of how he became an Olympic Gold Medal winner.

The Newton YMCA's pool heater has been repaired today. However, the water temperature is still cool.
Due to this the AFYAP class for today, Wednesday, has been cancelled. However the pool remains open.

Oil painting class to be offered beginning April 19
Due to popular demand, the Newton YMCA Arts Department has added a oil painting class to its schedule of art classes.
The class will meet from 4-5 p.m. April 19, 26, May 3 and 10 at the Newton YMCA's Y2 facility, and is open to individuals 8 and older.
